The Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Fund
Our southeast Seattle community is home to some of the brightest and hardest-working students in the entire city – students who dream of attending college, pursuing careers, and giving back to our community. Yet the cost of attending college has never been higher, and for many students, the goal of a college education remains just out of reach.
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Fund was started in 1985 by a small group of neighbors in Seattle’s Mount Baker community in an effort to help deserving students achieve the dream of a higher education and to honor the work and dreams of Dr. King.
Scholarships are awarded to local high school seniors in southeast Seattle who: show financial need and academic promise, have overcome obstacles, contribute to their community, and are from ethnic or racial groups that are underrepresented in higher education. Students who receive the scholarship must apply it to attending two- or four-year accredited colleges or universities.
The MLK Jr. Scholarship Fund is a sponsored program of the Mount Baker Community Club, a 501c3 nonprofit. Your tax-deductible donation to the MLK Jr. Scholarship Fund will go directly towards helping students pay for tuition, fees and other college expenses that they otherwise could not afford.
Please donate today and help more deserving, determined high school seniors in our community make the leap into college and beyond.

Partnering with CSF
Since 2020, the MLK Jr. Scholarship Fund has partnered with College Success Foundation (CSF) to provide non-financial support to our scholars. This means scholarship recipients and their families receive robust support before, during and after college, while recognizing the myriad of challenges faced along the way. Additionally, CSF provides evidence-based guidance on our scholarship program structure and enables us to measure and improve the impact that we make on student enrollment, retention and completion.
